new Celtic Saxophone quartet completed...hot off the press!

(February 17, 2009)
I have recently completed a Celtic style saxophone quartet (SATB). Each instrument gets it chance to shine, with all taking the lead voice in varying parts of the quartet.

The piece begins with a sop and bari call and response launching into the full on celtic theme which returns frequently throughout. The initial minor melody then moves into a jig style duet between tenor and sop (with alto and bari players obliged to clap and cheer in encouragement!). Imagine old Mrs O'Donnel has had one too many, and you'll get the idea! The main theme returns before a subdued section featuring a melancholy baritone solo. Both main melodies then return as an intertwined section before a lift in key resulting in an energetic ending...phew!
